my creative week.... a workshop, a little paint, a lot of sewing from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to my creativity round up for the last week of October 2022.

Relax!?? when there is so much to do??

no not raking,

ART-ing!!!

The little index card with a message for me on it is about all I've painted except for fabric this week. I started with a word written with stabillo crayon, and wet brush dragged the paint into a shadow. Then leaves drawn with pigma marker, painted with watercolors, it was done!

A workshop lesson this week was to try block printing on fabric

square stamp with spirals, lumiere paint
I used a foam brush ...

my creative week a quilt finish, a few paintings and a sewing machine story from Not Afraid of Color

For this week's creativity round-up I have a finished quilt, a few paintings and a sewing machine story

The quilt above was pieced from scraps sent to me after the colorful fabriholic finished her kaleidoscope quilt. I have made good use of them, and their colors are perfect for this time of year. Now I let these scraps sit waiting for this time of year, because I like to work in colors of a season.

The finished quilt is small, lots of careful improv stitching, and is perfect on my bedside table. It looks like a topaz geode would ...

sewing saturday, a finish and a finished top from Not Afraid of Color

For this week's sewing round up... a finish, a lot of scrappy sewing, and a finished top!

In honor of Fall, the cute small (about 20" X 24") quilt above was made with fall scraps, from a pattern I got from canadianneedlenana (maybe from this source. ) I love the little bird and would make that again

note little fussy cut fall images in stars

fussy cut words in the pumpkin stars too. I love this orange fabric with crows!

I admit, it was hard to allow myself to cut into the hoarded rust colored moda fabric to bind it ...

my creative week sewing, painting, and more from Not Afraid of Color

Some weeks you finish projects and some weeks are full of all the decisions and work of making them. This was a week of learning in 3 workshops, and background sewing for two big projects. The little stack there is made of 84 blue scrap squares cut out to make a border for this project in the works

I found the pattern on canadianneedlenana I Like post a few weeks ago and had to make it. The blocks are small and full of sewing tiny pieces and it was challenging but it's all together now and needed some visual ...

my creative week... drawing, painting, sewing from Not Afraid of Color

prompt was "sprinkle"

For this week's creativity round up I am starting with vase of flowers. This is from a two week list of prompts to make something 2" square each day. Sometimes I make two...

I am using index cards again, and sometimes painting then cutting down. DH came out of the office, saw a painting I just finished and asked how the neocolor crayons worked. I did a quick leaf study...

then cut it down to 2" engaging the edges. This works as we naturally want to paint the whole scene but it often is more dramatic ...

My creative week... painting a quilt, sewing a quilt from Not Afraid of Color

I watched this video lesson on how to draw and paint this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4QQqg0fi80&list=TLPQMjgwNDIwMjJec36i-sddtg&index=7

not as easy as it looks. I had to figure out how many motifs fit on my paper, set the compass, know what intersections to place the point in and how far to circle. Whew! but I was motivated and haven't done this before. Then paint the little centers

Take a big rest... think about it... I used my pointiest smallest brush, and my kuretake gansai tambi watercolors which have a sort of shiny cast to ...

My creative week Sewing/painting/ tutorials from Not Afraid of Color

on offer this week at the creativity round up is drawing on index cards (no prompts), sewing on several projects, and video tutorials.

I started by watching a video on Botticelli and his work Venus. While watching I was struck by the beauty of venus and took out a stabilo crayon and index card to capture the feeling.

a quick line sketch with a water soluble stabilo crayon, then judicious use of a water brush to drag the black crayon into shadows.

a little white gel pen for highlights, and I just love her.

next up was a zentangle ...

This creative week ...working in Fabric with orange tones from Not Afraid of Color

Index card art... One Line Leads to Another

Welcome to this week's creativity round up... a bit of paint on fabric, lots of stitching, and a bit of recharging going on at Chez LeeAnna's. The first pic was a continuous line drawing with thick pen on index card and I wrote one line leads to another with the letters all touching too.

I find that to be the case...

I enjoy many art/craft forms... and find I go back and forth between them. This week was spent back in my sewing studio, working with orange scraps because ...

paint and fabric, the creative week's offerings from Not Afraid of Color

Index card a day prompt "together

welcome to this week's creativity round-up! I started with one of the index card a day prompts, together, because today is our wedding anniversary. We married one day short of a year from meeting at a contra dance doing what we loved.... we both quickly realized this was the person we'd been waiting for and when that happens you don't want to wait around before starting a life together.

I usually write a poem or small paragraph on the topic, on the reverse side each day... but I just practiced fonts ...

paint over a written list... turns into art

art is a collection of so many decisions.... mixed with a desire to see a thought/feeling expressed  ---LAPaylor

Welcome to this week's sewing/creativity round-up!

"Crocus" finish plus all the colors from this week! from Not Afraid of Color

Welcome to the creative round up for the week! Above is a painting I made from a lesson by Tamara LaPorte! I love elephants who are wonderful parents and great friends.

Here are two more paintings done from her recent workshop of teachers

I read this somewhere this week...as a painter we have one job, cover things in paint. I heard this when watching a video about the impressionists... and love it. No pressure, enjoy color and watching it dry...

I learn from each painting, about color, shading, line and shape. When I start from an image, I try ...

Welcome to this week's round up of creativity chez LeeAnna. The above close up is my crocus banner that, wonder of wonders was made into a top ready for quilting, this week! I'll show more when it's done and dusted but for now, I needed to fill in some gaps in the improv pieced top row and pulled out my blue batik scraps in honor of RSC color of the month Bright blue.

creativity round up for the last week of May from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to this week's creativity discussion... the photo is a mug rug about 7" square, from a jungle scrap. It was made when zen stitch workshop was going on to practice the zentangle quilting technique

Basically you stitch a square, then when you come back around to the start, put your finger at the bottom of that line and aim to stitch straight to your finger's width away from the bottom right corner. Turn, do that again, over and over til you meet in the middle. It's interesting but felt tedious.

I am calling this my table ...
